Norwood Christmas Parade 2008

Norwood City Employee Holiday Schedule
Norwood employees, with exception of public safety employees, will be off Dec. 25 and 26 for Christmas and Jan.1 for New Year’s Day. Anyone who has water, sewer or other utility problems on those days may call 911 and the proper persons will be notified to offer assistance with the situation.
On behalf of Mayor McMahon, the Norwood Town Council and Norwood employees, a blessed and safe holiday season is wished for one and all! Happy 2009!
Shop Locally
The Norwood Town Council encourages residents to shop in Norwood during the holidays whenever possible. Find out what night those favorite shops are open.
Norwood Police Holiday Safety Tips
* Even though you are hustling and bustling around, stay alert to your surroundings. Walk confidently with your head up and stay in well-lighted and well-traveled areas.
* Be extra careful with purses and wallets. Carry a purse close to your body—not dangling by the straps. * Make sure purses are closed and fastened. Put wallets in an inside coat or front pants pocket.
* When using public washrooms and store dressing rooms, you are very vulnerable to a thief. Try to avoid putting your purse on hooks or door handles.
* Be aware of your surroundings. Watch for suspicious activity. Shop with a friend or family member. When using ATM, always keep your head up & watch for someone approaching from all sides.
Norwood City Fire Department Needs Volunteers
Norwood Fire Department is in need of volunteer firefighters. There are a few financial rewards such as a retirement plan and some insurance, but the real satisfaction in being a volunteer firefighter is helping others, plus the fellowship volunteer firefighters enjoy. For more information call (704) 474-3416.
Activities at the Gazebo in the Park
Norwood has one of the nicest gazebos of any small town. The Norwood Town Council wants to attract groups or individuals to entertain in the gazebo. A committee that includes Town Commissioners
Beverly Johnson, Alphonzo Rush and Harold Thompson has been set up to recruit groups to showcase their talents. Any persons or groups who would like to perform should contact one of the committee members listed above.
Norwood Bicycle Planning Grant
Norwood is applying for a bicycle planning grant that would eventually lead to a grant to build bicycle routes in the Norwood area. Citizens who want to have input in this process should watch for announcements in the Stanly News & Press regarding further developments.
Water Service Disconnection Policy
Each month, there seems to be some confusion about disconnection of water services due to delinquent payments.
The policy is as described below:
Water bills are mailed out from Norwood Town Hall around the 20th of each month and payment is due upon receipt. Bills are past-due after the 10th of the following month (unless the 10th falls on a weekend and they are then past-due after the following Monday). If a bill becomes past-due and continues to be unpaid through the 3rd day of the following month, it is subject to disconnection on the 4th day of the month (unless the 4th falls on a weekend and it is then subject to disconnection on the following Monday). Bills subject to disconnection are flagged before leaving Town Hall with a reminder of the date and time of disconnection. Disconnections begin on the designated day at 9:00 a.m. Once disconnected , the ENTIRE bill (current and past-due) must be paid, plus a $50.00 reconnection fee, in order for service to be restored. For questions regarding the disconnection policy, please
call Pam at Norwood Town Hall (704) 474-3416.
